African Queen began on the French Riviera in the late 1960s — its name and aesthetic borrowed from the cinematic glamour era when Bardot, Belmondo and the Côte d'Azur regulars made Cannes and Beaulieu the world's most photographed coastline. The Dubai outpost, opened at J1 Beach in 2024, is a faithful translation of that heritage to UAE sand: vintage-styled terracotta loungers laid out with precision; beachfront cabanas in shaded refuge; a Mediterranean-with-African-touches kitchen; and a Riviera-evoking colour palette of warm terracotta, ochre, ivory and aged copper.

The day starts as a beach club and deepens into a dinner-and-DJ scene as the light goes down. Sun loungers run in long photogenic rows; a small pool on the venue's interior side allows pool-deck loungers as an alternative to the beach. Service is genuinely attentive — staff move drinks across the sand without being summoned, the team reads tables well, and the dress-code is enforced without making it feel hostile. By 17:00 the music notch climbs and the venue becomes the dinner room of choice for couples who want food, atmosphere, and a sunset over Jumeirah.
