A family beach day in Dubai is as enjoyable as it is logistically demanding. Between the sunscreen, the swim nappies, the snacks, the toys, the change of clothes, the first aid kit, and the towels — packing for a family can feel like preparing for an expedition. This guide cuts through the overwhelm with clear, practical lists that account for Dubai's climate, the different types of venues (free beaches vs. beach clubs), and the different needs of children by age group.
This is a sub-page of our Complete Family Beach Day Guide for Dubai. Use the full packing lists below as printable checklists before every beach visit.
Universal Essentials: Every Family, Every Beach Day
These items are non-negotiable for any family beach day in Dubai, regardless of the age of your children, the venue, or the time of year.
☀️ Sun Protection — Non-Negotiable
Adults
SPF 50+ sunscreen — 200ml+ per adult. Reapply every 90 minutes and after swimming.
Wide-brim hat — minimum 7cm brim. Non-negotiable for midday hours.
UV-protective shirt / rash vest — for sun-sensitive adults.
Polarised sunglasses — reflective glare from water and sand is intense in Dubai.
All Children
SPF 50+ kids' sunscreen — baby-safe mineral formula for under 2. At least 150ml per child.
UPF 50+ rash vest / swimsuit for each child — dramatically reduces sun exposure vs. sunscreen alone.
Wide-brim hat for each child — with chin strap for young children who remove hats.
💧 Hydration
Drinks
1L+ insulated water bottle per person — keeps water cold for 6+ hours. One bottle per family member minimum.
Electrolyte sachets — particularly useful for children who sweat heavily during active play.
Children's juice boxes / pouches — as a cold-weather motivator for reluctant drinkers.
Food Basics
Snacks for children — familiar, non-perishable, heat-stable options. Beach club restaurants may not stock child-friendly snacks.
Insulated cooler bag — keeps drinks cold and food safe, particularly during summer months.
🏖️ Beach Comfort
Shade & Comfort
Pop-up UV beach tent / shade shelter — UPF 50+ rated. Essential if visiting a public beach (no shade provided). Useful even at beach clubs.
Large beach towels — 2 per family member (one for drying, one for lying on if sunbeds unavailable).
Waterproof playmat / beach mat — keeps children off hot sand. Essential for babies and toddlers.
Sand-free mat (mesh) — optional upgrade that prevents sand accumulation under your base camp.
Clothing & Changes
Complete change of clothes per person — wet swimwear + air conditioning = cold, unhappy children on the way home.
Light coverup / wrap for each family member — for walking from beach to restaurant or car.
Flip-flops / sandals — sand gets very hot at midday. Don't walk barefoot.
🩹 First Aid & Safety
First Aid
Plasters / bandages — various sizes. Sand and sharp rocks cause small cuts.
After-sun lotion / aloe vera gel — fragrance-free, for any reddening skin post-beach.
Antihistamine cream — for jellyfish sting relief and insect bites.
Children's paracetamol / ibuprofen — for sunburn headaches or fever.
Thermometer — to monitor if a child seems unwell in the heat.
Water Safety
Swim armbands / floaties for young swimmers — play aids (not lifesaving devices). For supervised pool play only.
Baby float ring — for toddlers in the pool, with parent present at all times.
Safety whistle — attach to children's rash vests at busy public beaches.

Additional Items for Babies & Toddlers (0–3)
👶 Baby & Toddler Essentials
Nappy Station
Swim nappies (Huggies Little Swimmers) — mandatory at all beach clubs. Bring at least 3 per baby per day.
Regular nappies (4–6 extras) — for before/after water contact and the journey home.
Portable changing mat — beach club changing rooms exist but having your own is more flexible.
Biodegradable nappy bags — sand gets into everything; sealed bags are essential for discretion.
Baby Comfort
Mineral sunscreen SPF 50+ for babies — zinc oxide based. Apply only on babies 6m+.
Baby carrier / mesh sling — breathable carrier for keeping baby close without overheating.
Portable battery fan — small, clip-on fan for the shade tent. Makes a significant difference.
Sand toys (bucket, spade, moulds) — endless entertainment. Basic sets from AED 15 at Carrefour.
Wet wipes in cooler bag — hot wipes are useless. Keep cool alongside drinks.
For Young Children (4–8)
🏄 Ages 4–8 Extras
Water & Sand Play
Sand castle building kit — moulds, shovels, mini buckets. Beach clubs don't provide these.
Inflatable beach ball — lightweight entertainment that packs flat.

Waterproof camera / underwater case for phone — for first underwater photos.
Downtime Activities
Waterproof colouring books or activity sheets — for quiet time under the shade.

Extra Items for Beach Club Visits
When visiting a paid beach club (as opposed to a public beach), a few additional items are worth adding to your pack:

- Booking confirmation on your phone — have it saved offline in case of data issues at the venue.
- Preferred children's snacks — beach clubs have kids' menus but may not stock the specific items a fussy eater will accept. Small snacks are usually acceptable to bring.
- Beach coverup appropriate for the restaurant — most beach club restaurants require a coverup when dining. Brief swimwear alone may not be permitted at the table.
- Card payment — minimum spend at beach clubs applies. Having a card (not cash-dependent) simplifies the F&B process significantly.
- Kids' club pre-registration forms — some venues require these to be filled in on arrival. Having the children's allergies and emergency contacts noted in advance speeds this up.
What NOT to Pack
💡 Leave these at home: Alcohol (prohibited on public beaches in Dubai), glass bottles (banned at most beaches), large DSLR cameras with external flash (require venue permission), and excessive amounts of cash (card payments are universally accepted and safer). Outside food in sealed containers is acceptable at public beaches but not at beach clubs — leave elaborate packed lunches for public beach days.
